Objectives:

  • To separate the molecules from the organic mixture.
  • To analyze the adulterants present in the food.
  • To extract the phytochemicals from plant sources.

 

PAPER I: CHROMATOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUES                                                      04 Hrs

General principles of chromatography

Types: Paper Chromatography, TLC, Column Chromatography.

 

PAPER II: SOXHLET EXTRACTION AND PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS       04 Hrs

Extraction of Phenols, tannins, alkaloids, glycosides, terpenoids, saponins, coumarins, anthocyanins, steroids, proteins, aminoacids and carbohydrates.

 

PAPER III: ANALYSIS OF FOOD ADULTERANTS                                                    02 Hrs

Analysis of Food adulterants in milk, honey and oil etc.

 

PAPER IV: PRACTICALS   ON CHROMATOGRAPHIC TECHNIQUES                30 Hrs

Chromatographic techniques: Paper, TLC, Column.

Preparation of extract from plant source and analysis of phytoconstituents

Analysis of food adulterants
