INTRODUCTION

The Department of psychology was established in the year 2002 with a view of imparting the best psychological knowledge for the students.

Psychology as a subject has been gaining importance in various facets of life, so understanding psychology in its true sense has been the need of the hour.

As the aim of Psychology revolves around studying human behaviour, this knowledge when imparted to students will help them to understand themselves and their surroundings in a better way.

 

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

 To  provide students with an understanding of human behavior  that will support their ability to participate as informed members of the society, and to develop in them an empathetic outlook towards others and their surroundings

MISSION:

  • To provide students with excellent and rigorous training in Psychology both theoretically and Practically.
  • To build deep expertise in the respective domain as well as a broad vision of the field
  • This is achieved through integrated Curricula that compasses of Teaching, Faculty guided Projects, Class room activities and Field works .

To create a generation of excellent psychologists who can contribute to the society as a whole

  • Presented a research paper entitled “Life Satisfaction in Adolescents: the effect of Optimism and Adjustment” at National Conference on Enhancing Psychological Well-being-2014, Coimbatore.
  • Presented a Paper On “Role Conflicts among Women” In National Conference held at Alva’s College in 2016.
  • Pursued Short term course on “Self esteem” from ICTA Cochin.
  • Secured ‘Student Faculty Award’ for the year 2012-13 at Alva’s College Moodbidri.
  • Presented Modules on Memory, Study Habits and Learning Skills at St. Mary’s School, Mangalore and Mangala Jyothi Integrated School, Vamanjoor.
  • Presented a module on Effective Study Habits on 28th December 2012 at Community Camp held at J.P.H.P School, Mantradi.
  • Internship at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore for 3 weeks from 09-06-2014 to 27-06-2014.
  • Internship at Dr. A.V Baliga MemorialHospital, Udupi for 15 days from 1-07-2014 to 15-07-2014.
  • Field works at Arunodhaya special school Karkala, Kittle Memorial School Mangalore and LINK integrated rehabilitation centre for addicts, Padil Mangalore.
  • Volunteered for De-addiction Community Camp held at Mahakali Temple Udupi from 16-8-2014 to 22-8-2014 organized by Dr. A.V Baliga Memorial Hospital.

  • Currently working as a Lecturer in Psychology in Alva’s College since          1-6-2016

 

 DEPARTMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Academic: 100 % results every year, with 5 university ranks in the last 5 years.
  • Students undertake minor Research projects as a part of their curriculum. , so far 3 students presented their papers and National level conferences.
  • As a part of the extension activity students go to various schools in and around Moodbidri to present the psycho educational
  • IQ Assessment of children of nearby schools is undertaken by the students of the Department.
  • Students Conducted the Mental health Week by organizing  Psychology exhibition., Guest talks to spread the awareness of Mental health.
