Department of History
History is a record of human activities in the past. It narrates how societies were in the past thus the vast store of historical knowledge indeed provides us valuable insights into the past to build a secure, peaceful and harmonious future . In addition to the political history of nations, it records great deeds, achievements, contributions, adventures, thoughts and sacrifices of extra- ordinary men and women. There are indeed sources of inspiration and motivation even today. Realizing this, the founder of the college has introduced history as one of the subject of study. Since the university permits this subject only to the Arts students, it has been introduced as one of the optional to the B.A. students in the year 2002.
The department of history has a department library which has a very good collection of books which includes text books, reference books, CD’s relater to world, Indian and local history. Apart from curricular activities, dept. of history has organized various co- curricular and extra-curricular activities for over all development of the students. Department also organizing Study tours, Local Field Visits and Guest Lectures for students which helps them to understand the subject better. The faculty member have actively participated in various academic activities such as Seminars, Conferences and Workshops organized by the Academic bodies of the University, State and Nation, the knowledge and the experiences so gained is used by them to impart knowledge in a better manner to the students. Therefore the students are guided and encouraged to involve themselves in writing assignment, presenting seminars, participating in inter-class academic exchange programmes and such other activities, besides the regular class room activities.
OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
The following are the stated objectives of the History department:
- The department of History was established to teach the students of the Under Graduate level about the past event of human Civilization, Dynasty, Culture, Art, Architecture, Literature, etc.
- Another objective of the department of History is to teach student not only history of our Society, Nation but also histories of various countries of the World.
- The Department of History not only gives priority to the circular aspects prescribed by the University, but also gives importance to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the interest of the students.
- The department is also intended to throw light on the various historical events through educational visits to historical places, conducting minor research on topics of historical importance.
- The Department of History has the objective of motivating the student for higher learning in the field of History especially for research and extension activity.
- The Department of History is also intended to conduct various inter disciplinary studies, activities with other humanities subjects such as Sociology, Political Science, etc.
- Make the students better citizens by understanding their social, civil, moral and ethical responsibilities.
PLAN OF ACTION
In order to realize objectives the Department has the following plan of action
- Divided the classes, syllabus and the hour of workload among the two exiting faculty members.
- Slow learners, advance learners and other will be identified follow up action will be taken as per the needs.
- Seminars will be conducted by the students in the classes.
- Guest Lecturer will be organized for the benefits of the students in the Department.
- Field studies and research related activities will be encouraged.
- Students will be encouraged to conduct research on local history and folklore.
