Department of Biotechnology

Introduction

The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2003 and started B.Sc. Biotechnology Vocational course under Mangalore University with a potential to find eligible bachelors to growing field of molecular biology and genetic engineering. In the beginning biotechnology was offered with chemistry and botany as other two major papers. In the year 2006 in addition to existing combination biotechnology, zoology and chemistry was introduces to attract the students and ample scope for research developments in the fields of science and technology.

In the year 2008-09 the Dept. of Biotechnology started Post Graduation course to upgrade the quality education and to bring research activities and to develop the dept. as a centre for research in the emerging field of biotechnology. The existing senior staff members adjusted with classes in the beginning and later year’s new recruitments were made for post-graduation and under graduation courses.
