The Institute of Company Secretaries of India(ICSI) is constituted under an Act of Parliament i.e. the Company Secretaries Act, 1980 (Act No. 56 of 1980). ICSI is the only recognized professional body in India to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries in India. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India awards the certificate of bestowing the designation of Company Secretary(CS) to a candidate qualifying for the membership of the Institute. It was in 1960 that the Company Law Board started a course in Company Secretaryship leading to the award of Government Diploma in Company Secretaryship. As the number of students taking up the Company Secretaryship course grew, the Government promoted on 4th October, 1968, Institute of Company Secretaries of India under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 for taking over from the Government the conduct of Company Secretaryship examination. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has since been converted into a statutory body w.e.f. 1.1.1981 under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980. The Institute of company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has its headquarters at New Delhi and four regional offices at New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. The Institute has four Regional Councils and under their jurisdiction 70 Chapters.

Objectives of C.S Programme :

  1. To offer an opportunity to students passing the Senior Secondary Examination the stage at which they decide their carer to have wider options towards their career building.
  2. To attract talented students to the profession at the right age, having requisite aptitude, to plan their future at the right age.
  3. To enable students desiring to take up company secretory ship Profession to enter early in the profession to be able to stay longer.

 

Eligibility for Admission for C.S Foundation Programme:

Candidates who have passed Senior Secondary (10 + 2 or Equivalent) examination of a Board / University constituted by law in India or any examination recognized by the central govt as equivalent there to can join the course.

 

Registration procedure for C.S. Programme:

Students may seek admission to foundation programme through online and offline modes. E-mail Id and mobile numbers are imeariably required to be mentioned for prompt response.

 

Last date for seeking Admission:

  • 31st March for appearing in December examination in the same year.
  • 30th September for appearing in June examination in the next year.

Registration fees   :         Rs. 4,500/-

Exam fees               :         Rs. 1,200/-

Applicant belonging to SC/ST eligible for 50% concession in fees.

Foundation Programme is a part of 3 – Stage. Professional Examination of Company Secretary ship course. That is

  • Foundation
  • Executive programme
  • Professional programme

The admission is open throughout the year. The admission to the foundation Programme will be valid for a period of three years from the month in which the application complete in accordance with the company secretaries regulations, 1982.

 

Foundation Programme Examination:

After completion of a Minimum period of 8 months from the date of admission the candidates would be eligible to seek enrolment for appearing in the foundation programme examination.

Presently in foundation examination is conducted twice a year in June and December.

Examination would be conducted in online system comprising objective type multiple choice questions.

New Syllabus for Executive and Professional Programmes :

ICSI Notification No. 01 of 2018 Introduction of New Syllabus for the Executive and Professional Programmes of the Company Secretaryship Course The Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India in exercise of the powers vested under clause (a) of subsection (2) of Section 15 of the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, as amended by the Company Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 2006 approved the new syllabus (Syllabus 2017) for the Executive and Professional Programmes of the Company Secretaryship Course. The New Syllabus shall comprise of Eight papers at Executive Programme and Nine papers at Professional Programmes including one Paper to be opted by the students out of eight elective papers namely, (i) Banking – Law & Practice; (ii) Insurance- Law & Practice; (iii) Intellectual Property Rights- Laws and Practices; (iv) Forensic Audit; v) Direct Tax Laws & Practice; vi) Labour Laws & Practice; vii) Valuations & Business Modelling and viii) Insolvency- Law and Practice. The nomenclature of eight papers of the Executive Programme & nine papers of Professional Programme including electives under the new syllabus are as under
