Introduction:

In today’s world, there is lot of scope for journalism. It is a profession preferred by most of the youths. Nowadays, It is valued equally as other recognized professions like doctors and engineers.

Importance:

This profession plays a vital role in the society and keeps the people updated. The Chairman of this particular institution, Dr M. Mohan Alva, introduced this subject (Mass communication and Journalism) as a course under arts disciplines to bring about practical knowledge and skills to the students.

Scope:

Journalism subject has a lot of scope. This includes various fields like advertisement, public relation, Translation, Reporting, Anchoring, Photo Journalism, Video production, technical writing, copy editing, animation, cartooning, freelancing, documentary making, film production and so on.

Alva’s Education Foundation introduced Journalism course in the year 2002-03, with the vision of imparting better education in the media field with the practical knowledge.  At present Journalism is being taught as an arts subject with the combination of EJP,EJH,EJB,CBJ

Faculty:

  1. Mrs. Reshma, HOD – MCJ , PGDCA – is a Assistant professor and Head, Department of Journalism(UG)  Alva’s College, Moodbidri. She has completed Master’s degree in Journalism and Communication from SDM Autonomous College, Ujire. Specialized in Print Media, she engages classes about advertising, media laws, reporting ,feature writing, communication  and such others. She has presented number of research papers in various  colleges and universities in international, national level seminars  and publication of the same in different journals , few research papers ahs  published in ISBN reputed Journals.  Apart from profession, she is recognized as one of the best freelance writers and number of  features got published in various dailies and periodicals.

Additional responsibilities with regard to college administration.

  1. Worked in Media Committee of Alva’s Mega Events like Alva’s Nudisiri, Alva’s Virasath and Alva’s Sports Meet etc and all Foundation Activities
